18th July 2025 - MP visit
Visit from Local MP - We were delighted to welcome Freddie van Mierlo, the MP for Henley and Thame, to talk to Owl Class on Friday about their Courageous Advocacy project concerning the right to education for children in Palestine. Mr van Mierlo submitted our petition to Parliament online this morning and will work with us to ensure that some children can also visit 10 Downing Street with it.
“I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Owl Class at Aston Rowant CofE Primary today. The children shared their inspiring Courageous Advocacy project, which seeks assurance that Articles 19, 28, and 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child are upheld in Palestine. I was deeply moved by how eloquently and passionately they spoke about their campaign, expressing their values of gratitude, resilience, outreach, wonder, trust, and harmony - not merely as words, but as principles they live by with genuine intention and purpose. It was a real privilege to meet such thoughtful and engaged young people, who are a true credit to Mr. Manning, the school, and their families.”
Our PTA are amazing because they build a strong sense of community, foster collaboration between parents and teachers, and support student achievement and well-being. The PTA are a vital part of our vision to ‘grow together’ and to offer ‘fulness of life’. They do this by:
Building Community: the PTA bring parents, teachers, and children together through social events, family activities, and collaborative projects, fostering a supportive network and school spirit.
Enhancing Communication: the PTA facilitate communication between parents and the school, keeping families informed about school activities, events, and important information. Supporting Student Achievement: The PTA often organize fundraising events to provide materials for classrooms, support academic programs by paying for resources or school visits and enhance the overall learning environment.
Promoting Advocacy: the PTA advocate for the children by suggesting and supporting extra-curricular activities and also for the local community by supporting events like Sydenham Fayre and Aston Rowant Patronal Festival. Creating Positive School Culture: by fostering collaboration and communication, our PTA contributes to a more positive and engaging school culture, which benefits everyone.
Encouraging Parental Involvement: our PTA provide opportunities for parents to get involved in their child's education and contribute to the school community.
Organizing Events: our PTA organise various events like welcome events for new families, end of term events, and family fun days, which help build community and raise funds for the school. We are so blessed to have an incredibly strong and proactive PTA. The work they have done, and continue to do, is incredible.
OxTrail Art Project 2024/2025
As you may have ‘herd’, Oxtrail is Oxfordshire’s first ever art sculpture trail, raising funds for Sobell House Hospice. OxTrail is a unique opportunity for schools across Oxfordshire to fundraise, engage with their communities and paint their own fantastic mini-ox. Once all the schools’ oxen are painted, we will bring the mini oxen into local herds in publicly accessible buildings for eight weeks. Local children and staff can proudly display their creation alongside other local schools, bringing brilliant engagement opportunities for everyone involved. At the end of the trail, you get to keep your ox!
"I would just like to let you know that you have come first place in our Oxley competition, successfully raising 825.45% over your target!!! Congratulations to everyone at Aston Rowant, we are so ox-cited for you and grateful for every one who has worked so hard to raise such incredible funds for us."
